Her Majesty's Australian Ship. HMAS. It is infradig to refer to a Royal Australian Naval ship as 'the' HMAS Sydney. We never say THE HMAS for that is ludicous ... The Her Majesty's Australian Ship sounds silly and is never used, except by journalists on television. By now these highly paid people should know little things such as name protocols. But, I suppose, if they don't know the difference between good and bad grammar, spelling, and the like, they will never know such arcane things as name protocol.
