America typically hypocritical re China

The American White House has espoused the One China Policy and has repeatedly reinforced the impression that the US truly believes in a One China Policy. Yet the State Department, because of a Congressional Law, supplies weapons of destruction to a province of China. To me, this is akin to China's selling weapons of destruction to Hawaii, or in our case, weapons to Australia's Tasmania. We wouldn't tolerate it it for one moment and I believe that China should not tolerate it for one moment either. If America does truly believe in the One China Policy, then why is it ignoring its own belief and selling weapons to a part of China?

Howard, Blair and Bush: War Criminals and Liars

Howard, Blair and Bush will go down in history as war mongers. All three men lied. That they continue to lie to cover their hideous plan to commit other lives to war is testament to what sort of mongrels they are.

India prepares for War

India's bellicose behaviour is not restricted to Pakistan. Australia has been in India's firing line lately. The same Hindu extremists have threatened to kill any Australian cricketer who plays in the IPL.
Recent years have witnessed an increase in ugly crowd behaviour at Mumbai Cricket Ground. Indians mocked one of our players by behaving as apes, thus implying that our cricketer was an ape. Harbajan Singh from Punjab was the main instigator of trouble between India and Australia.
Attacks on some Indian students in Australia have drawn warnings from India of a rift in diplomatic relations due to allegations of racism against Indians in Australia. Mobs have demonstrated against Australia and the Indian media has whipped its readers into an Anti-Australian frenzy. Meanwhile, three Indians have been arrested for murder of a fellow Indian and further charges are to be laid in other cases involving Indian victims.
So much for Australian racism when it is Indian attacking Indian here in Australia.
India has a lamentable record with its dreadful Caste system. The disparity between the rich and poor in India is disgusting.
The latest statement by a high-ranking Indian military officer that India can take on both China and Pakistan simultaneously in war is indicative of the arrogance that pervades the ruling cliques of India.
I for one do not not trust these malcontents of Indian power.

Musharraf is a reliable friend

Musharraf presented his country favourably while he served as President of Pakistan. We viewed Pakistan as a friend and as a reliable country. I refrain from using the term 'ally' as it denigrates the term independence. Allies tend to lose their independence to the stronger party within the alliance.

Kath and Kim: Fake Aussies 2

Kath and Kim never did reach the apogee of Aussie accents. Theirs was a put on by posh voices trying to imitate the real Aussie accent. Their 'look at me' take was way off the real accent. To take their put on accent as the real accent truly misses the point.

Pseudo Aussie Accents of Kath and Kim

As with Hogan's 'Put a Shrimp on the Barbie' invention, Kath and Kim's accent is an invention, an invention that was far off the mark when it came to a real Aussie twang. Kath and Kim were two characters made up by two women who did not speak with a twang. The result was a bastardisation of our accent and actually created a whole new vogue of 'pseudo-Aussie accents'.

Evil on behalf of Religion

Oh dear … it’s a long way from Oz to London but that does not lessen the culpability of states and persons that commit evil on behalf of religion. The audacity of Europe and the US to plop a whole bunch of foreigners into Palestine, call it Israel, and kick out the Palestinians, simply staggers me. That this crime is being defended, continued, increased and used as a banner for war, is enough to get someone to begin a process of legal action against these same.

Kyogle Shire and Dogs

These labels help vexatious neighbours square accounts with enemies. Up here in Kyogle Shire, neighbours get at one another via these dog laws. The merest whisper of a small dog moving toward another dog or person is sufficient reason for the Shire Ranger to impose a whopping $550 fine on the owner of the so-called 'attack' dog. In our village several people have been hit with $550 dog fines due to disputes entirely removed from the topic of dogs.

Telegraph and SMH fail in their responsibilities

First of all, it's LABOR party, not Labour. Second, it's not Labour but LABOR. Do you want to be told for the third time? It is a newspaper's obligation to get its story and its spelling right, every time. The Daily Telegraph and the SMH continually flout their duty to us, the readers. We have a right to expect our media to do the one thing that underlies their game, and that is the English language. Sloppy grammar, lousy spelling and incorrect reporting are grounds for dismissal. You people set the standards for us Australians and you let us down every day with your 'couldn't care less' attitude toward your job.

The Americans do not play Cricket

The Americans do not play cricket. That is their undoing. If they played cricket, they would come closer to understanding the nature of Pakistan's predicament.
If we want to beat India in a three-way International, we would go all out to support Pakistan.
If we wanted to help Afghanistan to develop its own cricket culture, we would encourage Pakistan to lend a hand.
But that's the trouble with the Americans: They do not play cricket.

China and India: Water and Himalayas

Makes sense. The matter of water is another aspect of the rivalry between India and China. Both countries with their billion-plus populations are dependent upon uninterrupted flows of water from the Himalayas. Neither country can afford to allow the other control or even undue influence over this water.

Now an older man, same age as I am, is in Abu jail for joking about a bomb. What sort of strange people are you at Etihad? China's acute paranoia

Google is quitting China because it, as with much of the rest of the world, is sick and tired of China's paranoia. The rest of us let things move, get on with life, and don't worry about inconsequential nonsense. If China is so afraid of information, how on earth is it to perform as a super power? We all know of China's fear of the truth. We sympathise with China's history for you have a lot to live down. You have suffered more than most. You live under polluted skies and you drink poisoned milk. But you are a lovely people and you have no need to be paralysed by the truth. This is why Google is sick of being perceived as being aligned with your paranoia..

Local Government: A hisaway for Criminals

Relevance is dependent upon who controls the relationship. In the matter of Local Councils, relevance is determined by they who have control. The law itself is irrelevant. Local Councillors are a law unto themselves. They are far removed from Macquarie Street. Hence, they are not scrutinised as thoroughly as they should be.
Another aspect of this situation that screws with justice is that local law means exactly that: it's local. Everyone knows everyone else and, being local, personalities play heavily upon justice. There is a law for every situation, and each situation is governed by they who have control.
Kyogle Council is a prime example. Up here in the north of the state, we are far removed from Sydney. We have our own culture and our own politics and if someone is not 'in with the boys of the council' then they have not a hope in Hades of securing influence in local affairs. In fact, they can become targets for the bully boys of Council.
A paedophile ran for Council in our last elections.
A local person was fined for sleeping in his house.
There are umpteen number of dogs in this Shire yet the Ranger selects those dogs that the ranger considers to be acting contrary to local and state laws. This selection can be arbitrary, to say the least.
Yet when the matter of the paedophile and the dogs are brought to the attention of the ranger, guess what takes precedence?
No, local government is a curse and the sooner it is relegated to history, the better.

China Nationalism tends towards Racism

This is a most disturbing article. Apart from the lousy English, and the attempt by the author to sound American [listen up!...don't mess with ...] with lower-end cliched buzz words, the author's trip into Uber-Nationalism reminds me of Hitler's rubbish talks to his faithful. Hitler separated Germans from the rest of the world by highlighting their 'us-ness', their Germanic qualities, and by ridiculing non-Germans. Although the subject matter is not of paramount importance in this article, the gist that laowai can never achieve oneness with their Chinese pengyoumen, is tantamount to insult and racism.
If I were to say that I was a Buddhist and that in my previous life I was Chinese, would the author refute me?

Heroic victory by the team. All this pontificating by Ponting does not obfuscate the fact that the Australian cricket team has not endeared itself to the international cricket public. When we cheer for victory at all cost, we forget how much it really costs us as a cricketing nation.

Trucks Kill

I contacted Bruce Baird when he was NSW Min for Transport in mid 80s. I brought to his attention the destructive power of trucks, the maniacal attitude of many truck drivers, especially at night along the Hume Hwy, toward smaller vehicles. These maniacs actually played 'games' with us car drivers. It was terrifying. Since then I refuse to travel at night along our highways.
What did Bruce Baird do? Nothing! Absolutely nothing! Since then, hundreds of us have died in crashes involving trucks.
The solution? It's easy. Put people ahead of profit and speed. Don't simply keep on with the same dangerous game. If your child is playing a dangerous game and life is threatened, you take steps to stop it. Then why not take steps to stop this dangerous game on our highways. It's not the trucks at fault: it is we who should have the care and responsibility to stop the game of carnage on our highways.
