Edward Said and Threat Perception

Edward Said's Orientalism captured the way imperialism cast a stigma upon that which was not of the imperial hub. Consider the words uttered by Poms: 'Aw but he's a good Pakky!' The inference is the 'good Pakky' is an exception.
The Pakistani in Britain has to order his life to suit the imperial mind. If he does, then he gets a 'good chappie' pat on the back. If, however, there are 'too many Mosques' and 'too many dark-skinned people' in the neighbourhood, then the 'threat perception' takes hold of the imperial psyche.
